About Poonam's Fundraising campaign for the Leela Foundation

I feel very fortunate to have dance and music in my life that keeps me centered, inspired, curious, and gives me immense joy. The importance of having these in my life was reinstated during the past two years navigating challenges of the global pandemic.

My training in the classical dance form of Kathak has been a journey of self-discovery and I am eternally grateful to our Guruji Pandit Das who dedicated his entire life to teaching this artform to many generations of students. Today, at the Leela Institute we are committed to educating, promoting, and preserving this artform for the future generations, and I feel proud to be a part of this community.

Indian classical arts are one of the richest cultural traditions in the world, and they are also one of the most under-resourced. The financial infrastructure for Indian classical art trails far behind that for classical art in the West. The Leela Endowment has been set up to provide long-term sustainable support for the artists and educators in the form of salaries, fellowships, and other critical resources.

In a short time, we have been able to raise over $990k for the Endowment and we hope to reach the $1M mark by the end of this month with your support!
