About Sonali's Birthday Fundraiser!

This year as I was looking back at old videos of myself dancing as a child, it struck me how grateful I am to have had access to music and dance throughout my life. Dance has been a way for me to connect with my sense of self on a deeper level, and has been a medium for me to explore complex emotions and relationships. At an early age, it instilled confidence in me and helped me develop both personally and professionally over the years. I'm so grateful for the strong community of dancers around me who ground me, inspire me, and offer me so much love! 

It is incredibly important to me that future generations have the same access to the arts that I did growing up. Currently, arts eduction is often overlooked and underfunded, and this only gets worse when comparing Western arts to Indian classical arts. As a result, it is extremely difficult for people to choose to become full-time artists. Many Indian classical artists struggle to pursue their art without financial infrastructure and support. As I look towards the future, I am optimistic about the support that the Leela Foundation can provide and excited to be a part of this change.
